Who We Are

Hack the Gap provides free, in-person digital readiness support for residents of Hennepin County.

Our programs are designed to help you confidently use technology in everyday life. That means helping with setting up email, applying for jobs, accessing online services, or learning how to stay safe online.

All services are offered within Hennepin County and are focused on practical, real-world support you can use right away.

What is the
Digital Readiness Program?

Digital readiness means having the skills, tools, and confidence to navigate today’s digital world independently.

We support residents who want help with things like:

  • Using computers, smartphones, and tablets

  • Email setup and everyday online tasks

  • Job applications and online forms

  • Accessing county, school, and healthcare services online

  • Understanding digital safety and privacy

  • Learning new technology skills at your own pace

You don’t need prior experience and you don’t need to know what questions to ask. We meet you where you are.

The program includes two main offerings:

Tech Drop-In Support

One-on-one and small group technology help—no appointment required.

Tech Drop-In sessions are offered at least twice per month in communities across Hennepin County, including Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park, and other underserved areas.

At Tech Drop-Ins, you can:

  • Get personalized help with your device or technology questions

  • Work through a specific task you’re stuck on

  • Learn basic digital skills in a supportive, judgment-free environment

  • Ask questions and get real help on the spot

This program is ideal if you want hands-on support and flexible help.

Monthly Focus Topic Sessions

Learn one digital topic at a time—together.

Focus Topic Sessions are monthly workshops that cover common and important digital topics. These sessions are designed to help residents build confidence, learn new skills, and discover additional support options like Tech Drop-Ins.

Topics may include:

  • Using email and online accounts

  • Applying for jobs online

  • Understanding smartphones and apps

  • Internet safety and privacy basics

  • Navigating online services and resources

Each session is practical, approachable, and designed for real-life use. These are often in partnership with other organizations.

Who Can Participate?

  • Hennepin County residents

  • Adults and supervised teens of all skill levels

  • Individuals seeking practical technology support

  • Residents who prefer in-person help and guided learning

All services are provided exclusively within Hennepin County.

How to Get Started

There are two easy ways to participate. Either way, you’ll receive welcoming, consistent support focused on helping you succeed.

If you’d like us to host a session at your organization, contact us.

  • You can attend a Tech Drop-In or Focus Topic Session directly. No referral required.

  • You may also be referred by a county program, community organization, or partner service.
